It’s that time of year again! The time of year when the snow starts to melt and make its way down the mountains and into the creeks and rivers we love to surf. The time of year when everyone in the river community starts coming together to attend their favorite river festivals.
The first river festival of the year will be The Golden Games on Clear Creek from May 20th-22nd. In my mind there are two things that set this event apart. First, it’s my local surf spot. Clear Creek is my goto for after work paddling. I love the whitewater park, and have dialed in my wave/hole choices to find surfing spots all the way down to 45 CFS!
The second reason I love The Golden Games is that it has a river surf competition. The organizers will choose the best looking wave or hole in the whitewater park and host a freestyle comp. Even though it’s a “competition”, the event itself is fun for all skill levels. There’s nothing like having a group of 20+ surfers standing in the eddy cheering you on!

If you’re into river surfing at all, go register for the surf comp to join me, and all the other river surfers, in what is one of the best surf sessions of the year! If river surfing isn’t your thing, checkout the rest of their events (including Downriver SUP Cross, Downriver SUP Sprint, SUP flat water races and SUP Jousting)!
