Here’s a little video from an Upper San Juan trip I took in October. It’s got a couple of rapids, some catch on the fly waves, and lots of good times on the river!

On this trip I choose to paddle my Badfish MVP-S. Its smaller size made the class II rapids and wave trains way more interesting. More importantly, it allowed me to surf just about every tiny ripple and steep thrashy hole on the way down river.

The other gear choice I made was to wear a drysuit. I’m usually a fan of wetsuits for river surfing. In this case the ability to change how many warm layers I wore under the drysuit, combined with the fact that I spend less time swimming when paddling down river, forced me to choose my drysuit over my wetsuit.

Both gear choices, although different than what I normally use, made for an enjoyable trip down the San Juan. I hope to be back for another trip next October!
